Well, the journey began a couple of years ago when my husband and I first viewed the house. We needed more room with our growing family and came across a four bed house, which while offering the space, needed re-configuring and updating. We could see the potential which was exciting! Luckily the stars were aligned and we moved in in May 2016.
A lot happened in 2016 which meant we’d have to wait on getting the ball rolling with planning and the build. My parents-in-law (and their two Alsatians and their Boxer) moved in with us in September, as they were relocating back to the UK from Ireland, and the twins arrived in the November. However as the months rolled on and we got to December 2017 we started to look ahead to what we could do with the house to bring it up to date and make it work for our family of 5.
Having never done any kind of build or renovation work before, we started the hunt for architects and after inviting three around for a chat about what we wanted we settled on Jay. He had been recommended to us and was absolutely brilliant from the first visit, he could see exactly what we needed and listened to our suggestions. We had a chat and talked about our options on everything from how far we could build out, building regulations to roofing styles. We arranged for him and a colleague to come out when he was next available, which turned out to be late January 2018, to take the measurements and draw up architecture plans.
And here is what we are doing! (Insert excited smiley face!!)
The pictures below show the external elevations (the grey areas are the new parts), the next is the proposed ground floor plan and the last is the proposed plan for the loft conversion, creating two bedrooms and a shower room.
Now we just need to find a builder!! Easy … right?
